Luxury sedans distinguish themselves from ordinary cars through features such as high-performance engines or electric drivetrains, fully powered leather seating, premium wood or metal finishes, and advanced digital interfaces.

However, simply carrying a luxury badge doesn’t automatically make a vehicle superior to its competitors. Some models fall short due to issues like weak reliability or underwhelming performance in testing, meaning they may not earn a recommendation from Consumer Reports. To identify the top-performing luxury sedans currently available, a list has been compiled based on CR’s evaluation criteria.

The Overall Score used in these rankings considers multiple factors, including results from road tests, data on reliability and owner satisfaction gathered from CR’s Annual Auto Surveys, and the presence of key safety technologies. These include automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, high-speed AEB, blind spot warning (BSW), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTW), as well as crash-test results from government and insurance agencies when available.

The vehicles featured are organized by their Overall Score and cover a range from compact to full-size luxury sedans. Unless specified otherwise, each model includes standard safety features such as AEB, BSW, and RCTW.
